New Contact Restrictions in Oldenburg from 15.08.2021

Source: NWZ Online

On August 13, 2021, the 7-day incidence in the city of Oldenburg was over 35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on three consecutive days. For this reason, a new general decree (Verordnung) has been issued for the of the city of Oldenburg to protect against new infections, which will apply from Sunday, August 15, 2021. You can check Oldenburg's current incidence rate here.

3 Household Rule

The new restrictions will currently only apply to the area of contact with others, and not to shops and restaurants, as previously announced. From 15.08, only ten people from a maximum of three households will be allowed to meet. According to the city administration, those who have been vaccinated or have recovered from the virus are not counted in this number. An exception also applies to children up to and including 14 years of age.

Shopping and Eating

The city confirmed that there will be no additional restrictions for retail and the upcoming Verkaufsoffenersonntag* (a Sunday where most retail stores in the city are open to the public) on the 15.08. There will also be no limitation on the number of customers per square meters in individual shops.

Sports facilities, libraries and museums will also remain accessible without further restrictions, according to the city's announcement, but we recommend that you double check this with your own gym, for example, as some may be taking extra measures in response to the rising incidence rate.

The currently known cases primarily resulted from travelers returning to Oldenburg who passed on the virus via private contacts, i.e. - predominantly a relatively small number of people whose contact tracking is guaranteed. In addition, the infection trend has started to decline again, and a further increase is not currently expected. The occupancy situation in the hospitals is also described as relaxed and the numbers are stable, and therefore the authorities have, for the time being at least, decided against heavier restrictions. The percentage of vaccinated people is also starting to be considering when looking at and examining the incidence rate of various areas.

If the situation should intensify or be relaxed, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Stay safe!
