New Corona Update (11.01.-31.01.2021)



The latest conference of the ministers has updated the corona regulations for the whole month of january. The regulations are valid from the 11.01.2021- 31.01.2021.

In general there are no huge changes to the regulations before, except the limitations of contacts.

In this article we will give you an overview of the central aspects of the regulations, that might be relevant for you.


  1. Stores have to stay closed until the 31.01.2021: According to the recent decisions, stores have to stay closed until the end of january. Food-related stores, weekly food markets, pharmacy, bakeries, postal offices (we listed all the exceptions in our last post for you) will stay open.

  2. Private Meetings: The restrictions of private meetings have thus been tightened up - You are only allowed to meet with one other person of another household. If you are living in a flat-sharing community for example, you can meet with one other person who is not part of your household. This restriction is valid in private space as well as in public. Private Parties are completely forbidden.

  3. Face masks: It is still compulsary to wear a face mask in the whole city centre of Oldenburg and in public transport, as well as in all enclosed rooms that are publicy available.

  4. Lockdown situation: The"hard" Lockdown continues and affects the public life. There are no changes to the restrictions from the 16th december. Meaning in general that cultural institutions, restaurants, bars, clubs, hairdressing salons, cosmetic studios stay closed.

  5. Campus life: The library of the university (Haarentor and Wechloy) is closed. According to the current information it will stay closed until the 5th of february. You are able to order books and media online and pick your ordered media at the main library Haarentor monday-friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information you can check out the website of the university: https://uol.de/bis

  6. Financial help for students: If the actual corona regulations have affected your financial situation (for instance, if you have lost your job or you are currently not able to work, or your parents have lost their jobs trough the corona situation) you can request for financial help. It's called "Überbrückungshilfe" and is an extra financial support for students during this pandemic. You can apply for the financial support under the following link: https://www.xn--berbrckungshilfe-studierende-06cf.de/start. Depending on your personal financial situation, you can get up to 500 Euros each month.

Even though the situation is challenging for all of us and the restrictions and the lockwon continues, we will get through this.
